MP3Million has an excellent MP3 catalog, many payment options, a help forum, and prices at $0.15 per track with an additional 20% discount for entire album purchases. Most albums have cover art, and all tracks are encoded at high bitrates. Very high payment bonuses (a $50 payment will land you a $50 bonus, for a total of $100 worth of track downloads) and easy downloading might make this the right site for you.
Before beginning the review, it is worth mentioning that MP3Million has a sister site that was already reviewed here (MP3Sale) - which means that they both share many of the same characteristics. The catalog, MP3 quality, downloads, payment options, and website functionality are very similar. However, an additional advantage of using MP3Million (or MP3Sale) is that your account works on both sites - meaning if you ever have a problem with one site, you can simply login to the second one - your account information and balance are useable on either site in exactly the same way.
In this review, we'll touch on the important things first and then show you a more detailed look at MP3Million - the signup process, making payments, details on payment options, and some of the additional helpful features that MP3Million offers.
MP3Million offers a very wide variety of payment options: Credit cards, paypal, amex, discover, maestro, JCB, and other methods are available. You can also charge directly to your mobile phone, your home phone bill, or a whole host of e-currencies (e-gold, Webmoney, etc).
All tracks cost $0.15 - every song, no matter what the length is. However, if you purchase entire albums, you often get a further discount. For example, a random album of 11 tracks should cost $1.65, but costs $1.32 instead (20% less). The catalog seems to be kept very well up to date, with new titles added daily.
All MP3's are encoded in high bitrates (192kbps or higher, with many being 256kbps - 320kbps).
Signing up at MP3Million is easy - all you need is a valid email address. Once you pick a username, password, and enter your first/last name you are good to go!
As previously mentioned, there are many payment methods available. First and foremost, you can pay with any major credit card. You can choose from amounts of $20, $30, $50, and $100. However, a purchase of $30 will net you a total of $40 due to a $10 bonus added to your account. A $50 purchase will actually get you $100 (you get a free $50 bonus as of this writing - click here to register and get this deal), which effectively halves the prices for you. (Click the image below to see a full size screenshot of the payments page)
Paypal is also available, although they process the transactions manually - so you'll have to wait some hours before the money is credited to your account (if you live in the USA, read our alternative method to using PayPal if you don't want to wait). Another payment option, 'onebip', works using your mobile phone. It's pretty easy to use and could be a good option for those without credit cards. DaoPay uses a premium telephone number for payment. Basically, you'll call a number that charges an amount per minute for the number of minutes required to get the value you want added to your account ($5 per minute x 4 minutes = $20 added to your account). Webmoney is another online web payment system like Paypal. Payments can be made in either Z (dollars) or E (euros). Using this method allows you to enter lower payment amounts than using a credit card.
The presentation of search results at MP3Million is better than many other websites. In this example, a search was done for 'Nine Inch Nails'. The results that came back are informative and meaningful: 1 Artist Found, 3 Albums with 'Nine Inch Nails' in the title, and a scattering of tracks with 'Nine Inch Nails' in the title. After clicking on the artist, I am taken to a page that informs me of the number of albums, singles, bootlegs, etc. for that particular artist.
I can immediately browse to the album I am interested in, and all albums appear to have matching covers. After selecting an album I can see details on the song encoding bitrates, filesize, duration, and various other bits of information.
In this case, 'Broken' from 1992 is encoded at 256kbps and costs $0.96 if I purchase the entire album.
Under the section "My Music", you can see titles that you have previously purchased and downloaded.
But what is pretty cool about this is that you can re-download tracks that you've previously purchased - which means you don't have to worry about losing the things you've already bought. You can simply re-download them at any time. Songs and albums are also downloadable in a compressed archive to save time and enable you to download everything all at once rather than each track individually.
An additional handy feature is found under "site settings" that lets you format filenames of the tracks you download.
You can, for example, set it so that the track name follows this conventions "artist-release-tracktitle-tracknumber.mp3", which would look like "Nine Inch Nails-Broken-Wish-2.mp3". Definitely handy.
Forums are available in which the moderators accept requests, as well as help you out if you have a corrupted file issue or problem using the website.
The forum is in English (there is also a Russian version available).
Nine different charts are updated regularly: the USA Top 100, UK top 75, Germany top 50, Canada top 100, EU top 100, Indie top 200, France top 50, Italy top 50, and MP3Million top 200.
